Silverthorne sits at the junction of I-70 and Highway 9, making it the first Summit County town you hit coming from Denver. What most visitors don't realize is that this town of about 6,800 people has produced multiple Winter Olympians. Red Gerard built a backyard snowboard park here and rode it to Olympic gold in slopestyle at age 17 — the youngest snowboarding gold medalist in history. The town loved it so much they temporarily renamed themselves Goldthorne. Chris Corning, born right here, competed in two Olympic Games in snowboard slopestyle and big air. Beyond the athletic pedigree, the Blue River runs through downtown with one of Colorado's premier Gold Medal trout fisheries, the Outlets at Silverthorne draw shoppers from across the mountains, and the trail networks connect to serious backcountry.
