What “black car” actually means at DEN
The phrase is borrowed from New York, where a black car was the pre-arranged, account-billed alternative to hailing a yellow cab. In Colorado it has a regulatory meaning too. Black car and limousine work is charter service regulated by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, and the state requires it to be pre-booked. That is why we cannot be flagged down at the curb and why there is no app queue — the trip exists as a reservation before the vehicle moves.
The practical differences a passenger actually feels:
- A named chauffeur, assigned to your trip. Not the nearest available driver. You get the name and number before you land.
- A rate set at booking. Weather, a full flight, a Broncos home game — none of it changes what you pay. If our published rates go up after you book, your booked rate holds.
- Commercial insurance and a permit. commercial auto and general liability insurance on every trip, under PUC permit LL-04689.
- Someone answering at 4 a.m. Dispatch is a phone number, not a support ticket.
The DEN pickup, step by step
At DEN the default is curbside on Level 5, Island 2 — Door 506 on the west side, Door 511 on the east, depending on which baggage claim your airline uses. Your chauffeur texts you the exact spot, because DEN moves doors and staging during construction. An inside meet-and-greet at the Level 5 train-exit greeting area, the top of the escalators and elevators, with a name sign and help to baggage claim, is available at DEN for $75.
Your pickup is set for 30 minutes after your scheduled landing time, the chauffeur texts you as soon as the aircraft is on the ground, and the vehicle is not released until dispatch has exhausted every way of reaching you — one hour after landing with no contact is the only release trigger.
If your flight is cancelled outright, we issue a credit for the value of the ride and rebook off your new flight information. We do not treat a cancelled flight as a cancelled reservation.
Going the other direction, DEN recommends arriving at least two hours before departure. We work the pickup time backwards from that using distance, traffic and the forecast, and the chauffeur stages 15 minutes early. Metro-area departures we build 10 to 15 minutes of slack into; a mountain departure in winter gets two extra hours, not fifteen minutes.

Which vehicle for an airport run
Rates are hourly and base rates before tax, fees and gratuity, with the first 40 miles of each booking included. Luxury Sedan $150/hr (3 passengers, 2-hour minimum), Executive SUV $125/hr (5), Luxury SUV $150/hr (6), Luxury Coach Van $250/hr (12, 3 hr minimum), Executive/Jet Van $325/hr (9) on a 4-hour minimum. Stretch limousines, party buses and coach buses are quote only.
For airport work the choice is usually decided by bags, not by seats. Four passengers with four large suitcases are more comfortable in a Luxury SUV than an Executive SUV, and the difference is $25 an hour.
Plan on five large suitcases plus a carry-on each in an SUV, and up to eighteen suitcases in a van. Oversized items ride on the roof. We work hard at not having anyone sit on a bag — these are not short trips.

How it is different from a rideshare black tier
Both put you in a dark-colored SUV. What differs is what happens when something goes wrong, which at an airport is most of the interesting cases.
A delayed flight. A pre-arranged ride absorbs it — the reservation moves with the arrival. An on-demand request is placed when you land, at whatever the multiplier is at that hour.
A 5:30 a.m. departure in a snowstorm. This is where the model breaks. Supply at that hour, in that weather, on the day of the storm, is exactly when a pre-committed vehicle is worth what it costs.

Roughly a fifth of our DEN arrivals are going into Denver proper. The rest fan out, and the destination changes the vehicle and the timing more than most people expect.

What the rate includes, and every fee that exists
The hourly rate is the price of the vehicle and the chauffeur. It is base rates before tax, fees and gratuity, and the first 40 miles of the booking are included — per booking, not per hour. Everything that can be added to it is on this list, and nothing that is not on this list gets added later.
No surge pricing, no late-night premium, no storm premium. And a rate lock: if our published rates rise after you book, your booked rate holds for that date. Change the date yourself and the new date's rate applies — unless the change was forced by a delayed or cancelled flight, in which case you get a credit instead.

What is black car service at Denver airport?

No. Rates are base rates before tax, fees and gratuity. It can be prepaid, but we do not add a mandatory gratuity line at booking. Chauffeurs earn it.
Do I need to book black car service in advance in Colorado?

What is included in the hourly rate?

The rate shown is a base rate; 9.3% sales tax, 4% card processing and, where applicable, a 12% fuel surcharge are added at booking, and gratuity is never automatically added. Other possible additions are the $75 inside meet, $25 per child seat, a $50 rush fee inside two hours, and wait time on non-airport pickups.
